I haven’t written a blog post specifically about gluten-free life for a while, so this one is going to cram in two key things going on right now in the free from world…
The Allergy & Free From Show Scotland
The Free From Eating Out Award winners of the best Coeliac Safe Fish & Chips
What feels like the longest January in the history of time is almost over, which means expo season is getting closer!
I’ve been to a fair few expos over the years, but The Allergy & Free From Show has always been my favourite. I’m really excited to let you guys know that it’s going to be in Scotland from 3-4 March at the SECC, Glasgow.
I was honoured to be invited to do a cooking demo at The Allergy & Free From Show Scotland! But unfortunately can’t make it as the journey from Cornwall to Scotland would cost practically the same as a small house. I will, however, be going to the London show in July and I can’t wait!
It’s a great place for people with food allergies and intolerances to check out new brands. And you get to talk with like-minded people. Pretty much every brand has tasters, so you can try before you buy – it’s amazing! There are also fantastic talks given by experts about the free from lifestyle, so you can learn loads.
Whether you’re new to being free from, or you’ve had years of experience learning to adapt your diet and lifestyle, you will love the Allergy & Free From Show. Not sponsored – I genuinely adore this expo!
If you’re still undecided whether to go to the Allergy & Free From Show, here’s my review of the expo from 2014. It’s got even better since then!
For those of you who want to check out the Scotland expo, all of the info you could possibly want is here.
Speaking of awesome places to try delicious gluten-free food, the Free From Eating Out Awards winners of the best Coeliac Safe Fish & Chips in the UK have been announced!
Yes, you read that right – the best gluten-free fish and chips in the UK.
The winners were:
“The café are dedicated to their gluten-free credentials. They are the only Gold Award winner to be accredited by Coeliac UK. Every part of the fish supper is coeliac safe, from the fish to the vinegar.”
“David’s goes the extra mile for its gluten-free customers, preparing dishes to order in separate fryers away from the main range. They even have Coeliac UK accredited gluten-free vinegar to buy and take home!”
“It’s a family affair at Hirds Family Fisheries, which offers gluten-free haddock cooked to order, and can also prepare a range of other fish (on request).”
“2017’s Fish and Chip Shop of the Year, Kingfisher Fish & Chips follow a mantra of quality and offer more than just gluten-free fish and chips with an entire gluten-free menu available on Mondays. Kingfisher care about sustainability as well, offering 12 varieties of MSC certified fish on its menu.”
“Vinegar Jones offers gluten-free fish and chips all day, every day. Vinegar Jones’ cod and haddock is line caught, and delivered to the restaurant daily to ensure the freshest fish, before being coated with owner Paul’s secret batter recipe.”
It’s incredible that when I first went gluten-free I struggled to find a decent loaf of bread, yet now there are awards for the best fish and chips! I love the direction things are going in the free from world.
